Pancho's 2/17/11 - Students from Norway, The Nones, Phantom Works, Slushy

Pancho's is an intimate bar and venue at 2200 N California. Sound is actually pretty awesome. And I met Pancho. He's awesome. Highly recommended.

Students from Norway
First time seeing these guys...pretty sure it was their first show...
I knew going in that the drums would be tight as...well...you know. pun intended
Ryan Quilty drummer for The Midwestern is a rock. Not surprising when you consider where he grew up...
As for their sound, if you enjoy to Russian circles or if you listened to Explosions in the Sky and thought they were OK but a little too ambient, you'll probably enjoy this band. I was relieved to see the guitars wandering in different directions on the fret board. With the addition of a solid rhythm section and the absence of vocals Students From Norway puts out a full, consuming sound.
Got some video of these guys as well. So look forward to a song or set in the future when I get some audio.

The Nones
The maybe 5' tall girl with the guitar absolutely shreds. According to her band mates she's the newest member of The Nones. But no one would have guessed that she learned their set in last three weeks.
The drummer and bassist drive. This band is insanely tight. Breakdowns and riffs are hard as hell and just as clean.
All this without mentioning the frontman who plays sax, effects his voice and can occasionally be seen on the floor in the crowd with a microphone jammed in his mouth.
